SURGE

'SURGE' is an artistic vision that explores the journey of a young woman as she tries to break free from the societal expectations and express herself authentically. The choice of subject matter was inspired by the mixed messages that many young women receive about their appearance, behavior, and identity. The story highlights the emotional turmoil that young women experience as they try to find their own voice and express themselves in a world that often seeks to control and define them.

My creative intention was to capture the emotional journey of the young woman through a series of images and a short film that convey her inner world and emotions. The use of movement and natural lighting was instrumental in capturing the raw emotions and the intensity of the woman's struggle. The woman is wearing a white wedding dress as a symbol of what is expected of her, which is almost like a cage from which she is trying to break free but at the same time, learn how to move in it. She is eating petals of red roses while looking into the camera. This image symbolizes the confusion and mixed messages that the woman has received about femininity and beauty.

The short film 'SURGE' invites viewers to witness the woman's struggle and ultimate triumph over societal expectations. The woman allows us to witness her performance, but we are not invited to participate, and we can only be spectators in the play. At first glance, the audience might think the woman is unaware of them as she never looks into the camera. However, in the end scene, she faces us and looks directly at her audience, challenging them with new views.
